The Big Player Session

Every once in a while I have a session that reminds me of why I do what I do, AND why I love it so much. Why I am so inspired by the realms I get to play in with my work.

Yesterday was one such day! Let me explain.

Our chart is our soul blueprint, and cosmic curriculum. I like to think of it as our universal birth certificate. It holds a web of information about our unique soul journey. Including a map of the potential of our incarnation. Revealing the archetypal contracts we came in to master.

It is an invitation to an epic, high level game, should we choose to accept it.

The chart is also a holographic imprint of reality. It encompasses the full spectrum of potentiality across the human experience. High's and low's, dark's and light's, and all the shades in between.

All of the different flavors our soul wishes to experience.

Therefore, no chart is necessarily bad, or brilliant. They are simply actualized to different levels of potential.

It’s easy to look back and see why Gandhi was able to accomplish what he did.

But thousands of people will have similar aspects in their chart and not did not live at the same level of mastery.

My suspicion is that Gandhi went down in the history books because he allowed himself to be initiated and worked by his archetypal contracts.

You can see it, right there in the chart. The way he let Uranus in Cancer live through him. He liberated its full archetypal potential, using nourishment, or rather the lack of it, to help liberate his people.

Or in other words, he actualized the full potential of his placements. Which honestly looks a lot more like surrendering to their lessons, than actualizing anything through our own force of will.

This isn’t to say that each person is here to perform at this level. I don’t want to give the impression that his soul calling is everyone’s soul calling. Our soul calling is our own.

The larger point I’m trying to make is…So often when I read a chart, I can see that there are places in the chart where people are either unleashing their full potential, or conversely, actively avoiding it.

When we are actively avoiding, it’s as though we are leaving a piece on the board; latent possibility.

Often this avoidance comes from fear of the archetypal realm, and the sense that we will be called to a deeper level if we meet it.

Every good astrologer makes their own observations after reading hundreds of charts. There are patterns that come through about humans in general.

One prescient thing that I’ve found, is that often, when people really approach their lives as practice that they are living out their whole chart. Really embodying it fully. You can see how it’s come to life. All of it's beautiful fruits, are woven in. Like strong circulation in the body. It doesn’t mean things are always rosey in all parts of the chart. Rather that they are fully engaged and working the whole thing. There is no part that they aren’t actively dancing with in some form of another. All the channels are open and flowing.

In the charts of people who aren’t living their lives as practice, or who are unsure what this whole cosmic game is about, we can see how the archetypes are vying for their attention. Calling out to them. They want to work with us, and help us on our journey. To help us “get” the curriculum for this life. It’s already locked and loaded waiting to be unleashed, pulsating through us either consciously or unconsciously. It’s a matter of whether we are sensitive enough to feel and respond to these impulses.

In a chart with neglected archetypes this often looks like the archetypes are “acting out”. In essence, it just means they are getting louder, so we will pay attention. So we will engage with what we incarnated for.

But because this “acting out” feels unpleasant, or “dark”, we employ our resistance patterns “against '' their “call”, rather than meeting them and cultivating a relationship to the energy they are emanating. We always, always, know the that we are doing this deep down inside. We just have to put some attention on these patterns of resistance to see it.

To me, this idea brings me back to my Ayurvedic roots. There is a principle around “balance” in the body that states; dis-ease always starts in the etheric and eventually manifests in the physical if it isn’t attended.

We are notified of the lack of attunement in the subtle realms, which then moves towards the gross.

In this same way, the archetypes begin with a whisper that grows louder and louder until we surrender and engage with their lessons..

After the reading I had yesterday, with my teacher, Perri Chase who is living out all aspects of her chart, I was inspired to look again at mine through this lens. The big player lens.

In it I could see the fruits of all of the placements that have really worked me. And, I could also see the places I’ve been turning away from. Or the places that irritate me a bit. The preconceived notions I have about certain placements being “challenging”, or not feeling in resonance with them.

When we don't work with archetypes within us, they don't mature. Rather, the relationship almost plays out like a parent child relationship. We respond to the archetypes through an inner child dynamic, rather than bringing our adult to meet them. (resistance patterns)

It was such a gorgeous way to see where there are pieces left on the board. Where I have latent potential. Where I am in resistance to my own path because some of it just feels so huge.

We will never consciously “know” ahead of time what our soul calling is. It is revealed step by step. Initiation by initiation. Surrender by surrender. Truth by truth.

It is only through stepping on, and engaging with the path, that we unlock and open the chart. It's the work itself that gets us to where we are meant to go.

You are welcome to explore your chart with me through this lens, should it stir something within you. Fill out the inquiry sheet below.

Damascena is an Archetypal Astrologer, Ayurvedic Wellness Practitioner, and The Facilitator of the Transformative Journey through the Mandala of Venus’ Wisdom, called “Sky Dancer”.

She is a passionate devotee of the ever unfolding mystery. As an expert observer, a trait she developed as an only child, she regards herself as both a student of life, and decoder of the cosmos.

Skilled at recognizing invisible patterns, and picking up on subtle shifts in the collective, she gets a thrill from uncovering and revealing the hidden threads that are woven together to create our paradigm.

Her passion for this existential detective work aligns well with her unique approach to one on one client work, as she helps others to discover the building blocks of their archetypal blueprint, and mythic overtones. She does not believe that astrology is static, and therefore works with clients to develop strategies and practices that allow them to transcend challenging aspects of their natal chart.

She lives on the Shores of Lake Erie with her husband, four kids, and Cat, Oscar (the grouch).

These days, when she isn’t interpreting a natal chart, or translating the stars for her astrology blog, you can find her engaging in one of her favorite pandemic pastimes, unraveling her inner “good girl”, cultivating the ability to thrive in the deep, dark, unknown, or playing her favorite game of identifying fun paradoxes called “two things are true at once”.
