The Power of Words and the Spell of Motherhood

In this episode, Damascena recounts a recent social media post that opened a profound inquiry in her. The way the words "Mother" and "Woman" are themselves an old, and sacred spell, or code, that helps us claim something deep and primal within us.

Without the word Mother, the recent loss of her son would be without important context. And what a disservice this would be to woman who have lost children, or miscarried. The word mother contains the profound meaning that living inside of loss carries.

*because of the sensitive nature of the topic, this felt edgy to create. Yet I’m determined to bring my voice from a shake to a roar around this topic. In service to woman and mothers everywhere. This podcast is a passion project around full expression.

In this episode Damascena speaks to:

-Her own experience with "Mother"
-Her work in adoption advocacy with and with "birth" Mothers. And the underground language used to coerce woman out of their babies.  (see "The Girls Who Went Away" by Anne Fessler)

-How words create context, and can be easily used to manipulate us.

-Covert and Overt types of Censorship

-She also talks about the difference between the Pythia, the Oracle at Delphi, and The Goddess Cassandra

-And muses more on Venus being focalized at the Throat Chakra in Gemini

This isn’t a conspiracy theory. Words really are on the chopping block. Not only am I concerned about censorship, I am concerned there are going to be laws around using “inclusive language”. It is invading workplaces, and clinical spaces. Our Classrooms, and Public spaces through “Policy”. Is the law next? Using inclusive language, just like any kind of speech, should remain an area of personal choice.

Damascena Tanis

Damascena is an Archetypal Astrologer, Ayurvedic Wellness Practitioner, and The Facilitator of the Transformative Journey through the Mandala of Venus’ Wisdom, called “Sky Dancer”.

She is a passionate devotee of the ever unfolding mystery. As an expert observer, a trait she developed as an only child, she regards herself as both a student of life, and decoder of the cosmos.

Skilled at recognizing invisible patterns, and picking up on subtle shifts in the collective, she gets a thrill from uncovering and revealing the hidden threads that are woven together to create our paradigm.

Her passion for this existential detective work aligns well with her unique approach to one on one client work, as she helps others to discover the building blocks of their archetypal blueprint, and mythic overtones. She does not believe that astrology is static, and therefore works with clients to develop strategies and practices that allow them to transcend challenging aspects of their natal chart.

She lives on the Shores of Lake Erie with her husband, four kids, and Cat, Oscar (the grouch).

These days, when she isn’t interpreting a natal chart, or translating the stars for her astrology blog, you can find her engaging in one of her favorite pandemic pastimes, unraveling her inner “good girl”, cultivating the ability to thrive in the deep, dark, unknown, or playing her favorite game of identifying fun paradoxes called “two things are true at once”.
