Leo New Moon

LEO NEW MOON

There are many beautiful ways to contemplate the zodiac. Especially the lights. Cancer=Moon and Leo=Sun.

In many schools of thought, Cancer, The Moon, “Mother”, relates to the Soul. A downward thrust of a mysterious kind of animation deep into the caverns of the body.

The land of Soul begins in the womb, and continues to carry these qualities all throughout our incarnation; warmth, moisture, and darkness. There is something dense about Soul Making. Soul Making has a particular base note. We know when we are in this land when we meet a kind of inner miasma. Though ineffable soul has heft.

Then there is Leo, Sun, Father. This substance begins in the heavens. It is light and radiant. Instead being a downward thrust, it emanates outward.

We need both. There is an alchemy between the two.

Just like we spoke to yesterday, with the Thorn, and Essence, there seems to be a correlation between the thick, heavy forest terrain of Soul-Making, and the effulgent, glorious, outward gleam of our essence.

Soul Making is indeed treacherous terrain. It often takes us through the liminal underworld, pushes our face up against the mystery.

But in relation to the Leo New Moon, let us consider the words of Leonard Cohen in relationship to these concepts. Soul-Making, and Spirit = Essence.

“Ring the bells that still can ring

Forget your perfect offering

There is a crack, a crack in everything

That's how the light gets in.”

One of the most unfortunate things that has happened in Religions warping these concepts, is that the “Light” (Sun) has become associated with Transcendence, and Transcendence associated with Perfection. The scales that weigh the heart against the feather. And eternal damnation for those who don’t meet the threshold.

We’ve set the light apart. Cast it to the heavens.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

In my view, it’s the well weathered soul that shines most brightly. The one fully at home in their humanity that makes me feel most safe. It’s the one comfortable with their mistakes. Who doesn’t seek perfection but rather growth and evolution that shimmers with vitality. The one with cracks that lets the light through.

It is here that that heft of Soul & Lightness of Spirit ring out as a gorgeous deep harmonic. Calling people into your presence, hoping to share in your essence.

I could talk about all of the technical transits of this New Moon at 5:38 am EST at 23° Leo. Still closely conjunct Black Moon Lilith, and again with the chart Ascendant sparkling outward from Leo punching up the energy.

But I’m not going too.

I believe this concept is the most important one to travel with this month.

How we let the thorns dim our light, instead of letting them pierce the vessel of nectar that allows the essence to flow outward.

If we spent this whole month focusing our attention here, supported by the Lion, we’ll have really gotten the medicine of this New Moon.

Her passion for this existential detective work aligns well with her unique approach to one on one client work, as she helps others to discover the building blocks of their archetypal blueprint, and mythic overtones. She does not believe that astrology is static, and therefore works with clients to develop strategies and practices that allow them to transcend challenging aspects of their natal chart.

She lives on the Shores of Lake Erie with her husband, four kids, and Cat, Oscar (the grouch).

These days, when she isn’t interpreting a natal chart, or translating the stars for her astrology blog, you can find her engaging in one of her favorite pandemic pastimes, unraveling her inner “good girl”, cultivating the ability to thrive in the deep, dark, unknown, or playing her favorite game of identifying fun paradoxes called “two things are true at once”.
