Mary Magdalene & Incarnation

THE MYSTERY OF INCARNATION

Because I work with Archetypes, I like to occasionally post this reminder: we incarnated to be human.

Archetypes can be tricky. If we work them unconsciously, we reinforce an old paradigm. Comparison and let down ensue.

Let me explain.

Archetypes are the pure pattern of the thing they represent. Therefore, they can be phenomenal for growth. When we want to embody something new, archetypes can act as role models. They model the attributes or qualities we might want to incorporate to have a bigger, more robust, experience of life.

But if we are unconsciously mapping them onto our reality, they can negate our humanity. Because humans will never be perfect or pure.

Descending, the path of Incarnation

No matter how much spiritual work we do, we will never escape the occasional uncomfortablity of being human.

True ascension happens when we are dead.

So much of the Patriarchal Christian/Abrahamic Religious programming is geared towards cultivating a near impossible level of moral “goodness” that negates our humanity. It seeks to be ladder out of the “hell of humanity”. Viewing us in a fallen state. Only it’s a program given to us by something outside of ourselves. It belongs to someone who isn’t intimate with our soul.

Ascension programs are built into much of the “self-help” world as well. When we aim to “better” ourselves, it can act like a denial or negation of our current reality. Signaling to the universe that we are not ok as we are now. Bettering ourselves isn’t bad on its own. It’s when we are oriented this way chronically that it becomes a problem.

All of these external programs keep our eye turned outwards. We consent to give our inner authority away to something outside of ourselves because this person or system has something we want, or answers we don’t have.

Every time we are mapping an external system onto our existence, a sky-god, a cultural archetype, “the way things should be”, etc. we run the risk of negating our humanity if we aren’t consciously making space for it. It’s also dissociative, and takes us out of our body and immediate experience.

Why Mary Magdalene and the Gnostics were so dangerous, is because they came with a message that would make the program irrelevant. And empower individuals. Shifting the whole paradigm.

They came to restore our inherent goodness, and reorient us to the “Kingdom within and all around us.”

My most productive, most transformative, spiritual practice to date has been to finally, fully, give my humanity permission to exist, to breathe, to be. Warts and all.

Cultivating a relationship to my humanity has naturally shifted me into the position of having inner authority. Not needing to look outside myself for answers *all the time.

This is also spiritually correct. One of the foundations of an embodied spirituality is increase our capacity to be present.

To be with what is true, now. To see ourselves as whole, and holy, sacred and sovereign, as we are NOW. With no additions and no subtractions.

When we do this, it allows us to see that the universe is, in essence, benevolent. We always have access to a living source of love. Here, now.

We “ascend” and spend time in the spirit world, or other dimensions after we transition. (Unless we are a Shaman of some sort, though most of us aren’t)

So trying to “ascend” in this lifetime means we are missing the point if it balanced by being present with our humanity. Engaged with our incarnation.

While we are incarnate, here on earth, our humanity is the spiritual curriculum.

A lot of funky personality traits stem from this negation of humanity that results in low levels of confidence and self approval.

Projections and “shoulds” go haywire in this case. Relating gets warped.

Giving full acceptance/approval to whatever is showing up, leaves us at choice for something different, more nourishing, more life giving, etc. It allows us to more easily feel and align with what is true.

The acceptance/approval of our experience, even if it “seems bad or unpleasant” improves our vision, and our discernment.

This is not to say “I accept this abuse”. But rather ”I accept this abuse is what is currently happening”.

Once we can see this, and accept the circumstances of our current reality, we can choose a new path.

Only by being present with an unpleasant reality, can we ultimately heal and transcend it. We can’t outrun our incarnation. It always, eventually catches up with us. In this life, or the next.

When we don’t accept/approve of our experience, we are in conflict with what is real. We push it away. Our perception of it becomes distorted.

In the gap, between the way things really are, and the way things “should be”, Shame is generated. This is often where we want to dissociate from our humanity. Where we look to an external map to pull us up and out of our suffering. And the pattern or reality we are spending our life force to deny, often gets locked in place. Aka, not available for alchemy or integration.

The incarnate map is always down and in first. It’s present, open, and in flow.

Part of accepting/approving of our humanity means we even accept ourselves when we are stuck in the ascension program.

Damascena Tanis

Damascena is an Archetypal Astrologer, Ayurvedic Wellness Practitioner, and The Facilitator of the Transformative Journey through the Mandala of Venus’ Wisdom, called “Sky Dancer”.

She is a passionate devotee of the ever unfolding mystery. As an expert observer, a trait she developed as an only child, she regards herself as both a student of life, and decoder of the cosmos.

Skilled at recognizing invisible patterns, and picking up on subtle shifts in the collective, she gets a thrill from uncovering and revealing the hidden threads that are woven together to create our paradigm.

Her passion for this existential detective work aligns well with her unique approach to one on one client work, as she helps others to discover the building blocks of their archetypal blueprint, and mythic overtones. She does not believe that astrology is static, and therefore works with clients to develop strategies and practices that allow them to transcend challenging aspects of their natal chart.

She lives on the Shores of Lake Erie with her husband, four kids, and Cat, Oscar (the grouch).

These days, when she isn’t interpreting a natal chart, or translating the stars for her astrology blog, you can find her engaging in one of her favorite pandemic pastimes, unraveling her inner “good girl”, cultivating the ability to thrive in the deep, dark, unknown, or playing her favorite game of identifying fun paradoxes called “two things are true at once”.
