On Water Signs

A Note on water signs, and Venus in Pisces.

In Astrology, the Water Houses 4, 8, & 12

Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces

Are called the trinity of the Soul, or the Psychic Trinity.

Together they constitute a major factor relating to personal Karma.

Pisces, the Traditional 12th House, has been called the House of Karmic Liabilities.

So while Pisces has this deep, dream like, liminal quality, our Karma, and past karmas can definitely be stirred up here.

In Astrology Karma is what binds us to the material plane, and to a specific level of consciousness.

All of the Water Houses deal with the past, with conditioned responses which have become so embedded throughout lifetimes that they are now instinctual. They operate through the emotional field/body.

At one level these houses deal with the deepest yearnings of the soul, yearinings which by their very nature are at least partly unconscious.

The cycle of the water houses shows us the process of gaining consciousness through assimilating the essence of the past and letting go of the residue which has outlived its usefulness.

Our emotional waste and exhausted emotional behavior patterns must be purged before the soul can express itself clearly.

All of these Houses, therefore, correlate with the need to attain emotional peace and freedom from the past.

Therefore anyone with a major emphasis on these houses in their natal chart has a need to bring to the surface the hauntings and fears generated by past experiences and let these feelings be illuminated in the light of full consciousness.

When we allow these past experiences to remain submerged in the in sub-or unconscious, they materialize as a sense of existential fear.

Fear not attached to a particular circumstance, but that is rather free floating in the atmosphere.

Richard Ideman, an astrologer, says these fears can be indicative of “the returning helplessness of childhood states, social taboos, or chaos”, or even more removed, can stem from past life and/or ancestral fears emerging in this lifetime.

Planets in the water houses indicate an urge towards giving these fears expression.

With Venus now in Pisces, the urge is to free the heart from these past fears and limitations.

The Sun ingresses into Pisces on 2/18.

Then with Saturn’s upcoming ingress into Pisces, 3/6, we will experience this on a much more visceral Karmic level, because of Saturn’s relationship to Karma in general.

A note on letting go:

On one hand, we can’t “let stuff go” that needs to be sat with, healed, intigrated, or alchemized.

We may want too…

But if we haven’t gotten the thing it came to teach us, show us, or reveal to us, etc. it won’t leave.

We can keep turning our back on it, trying to shake it off, but it will continue to return, again and again until it’s we’ve fully acknowledged and related to it.

The paradox is, once we’ve finally “been with” the thing we want to let go of; it stops having power over us. And we no longer need to focus on “letting go”.

On the other hand, sometimes, we just need to let shit go.

Our job is to (g)now which one it is.

Ceremony to close out some of these past fears can be quite helpful when they live in the detached or dissociated realms.

It helps release what is ready to go, and bring to consciousness what needs to be worked with and alchemized.

She is a passionate devotee of the ever unfolding mystery. As an expert observer, a trait she developed as an only child, she regards herself as both a student of life, and decoder of the cosmos.

Skilled at recognizing invisible patterns, and picking up on subtle shifts in the collective, she gets a thrill from uncovering and revealing the hidden threads that are woven together to create our paradigm.

Her passion for this existential detective work aligns well with her unique approach to one on one client work, as she helps others to discover the building blocks of their archetypal blueprint, and mythic overtones. She does not believe that astrology is static, and therefore works with clients to develop strategies and practices that allow them to transcend challenging aspects of their natal chart.

She lives on the Shores of Lake Erie with her husband, four kids, and Cat, Oscar (the grouch).

These days, when she isn’t interpreting a natal chart, or translating the stars for her astrology blog, you can find her engaging in one of her favorite pandemic pastimes, unraveling her inner “good girl”, cultivating the ability to thrive in the deep, dark, unknown, or playing her favorite game of identifying fun paradoxes called “two things are true at once”.
