Beltane and An Eclipse

Today we have both Lunar and Solar Beltane. AND a Powerful Lunar Eclipse in Scorpio.

Why is this exciting?

Beltane is one of the Eight Holy Days that Comprise the Wheel of the Year.

The High Holy Days, Spring Equinox, Summer Solstice, Fall Equinox, and Winter Solstice all happen at the 0° Mark of the Four Cardinal Signs.

Aries, -Ostara. Cancer, Litha. Libra, -Mabon. Capricorn, Yule.

However, the Cross Quarter Holy Days are different, they are Celebrated at the 15° Degree Mark of the Fixed Signs.

Taurus, -Beltane. Leo, -Lammas. Scorpio, -Samhain. Imbolc, -Aquarius.

What is the difference between the Solar High Holy Days and the Lunar? The Lunar High Holy Day is Celebrated on the Full Moon of that Month. A day that is changeable. Whereas the Solar Holy Days are always fixed at the 0°, or 15°, point in the signs.

However it’s rare that it happens on the same day. We don’t usually have the Sun Crossing the zero degree threshold of a sign, then also have the Full Moon that exact same day.

That’s what makes today special. Today the Moon Strikes its Fullness at 1:34 pm at 14° Taurus. Then the Sun Crosses the Threshold of 15° Taurus about 45 minutes later at 2:19 pm.

What is the Meaning of Beltane?

Beltane is the last of the Spring festivals. Taurus the Bull is the first of the Earth signs and its energy is one of being grounded in Earthly Delights. Taurus is a sign of security and as in the case of Beltane celebrations, the union of Masculine and Feminine energy is the security and promise of renewed and sustainable life. It has a very juicy, dripping, slow, and erotic feel to it.

Beltane marks the point in which Spring energy is fully realized in nature. Traditional Beltane Symbols include those of Fertility, like the Maypole, (Axis Mundi, or World Tree) representing the Vegetation Spirit, and the Beltane Fires.

The energy of this time isn’t only about physical fertility, but rather how we might sow seeds for all sorts of things we wish to manifest: creative projects, positive relationships, finding ways of expressing ourselves, and more. This is the time when the flowers come back, nectar flows, and Demeter Greens the World Once Again.

Not only is this Lunar and Solar Beltane, which holds a deep birth and fertility signature.

But today is Lunar Eclipse, at 14° Scorpio. With the Lunar Nodes at 4° Across the Taurus/Scorpio Axis, Squaring Pluto. All of this denotes a deep death and transformation signature to be juxtaposed against the thrust towards new life of Beltane.

In other words, this energy is swirling, hypnotic, tantric, erotic, tinged with longing, loss, and perhaps the feeling of free falling without a net into our next evolutionary gateway.

In other words, it’s intense.

I don’t hold that eclipses are an ideal time for celebration, ceremony, or ritual. But rather are a time to be reflective. A time to focus inward on what has transpired in the last six months. And perhaps even the last 18 months if events suggest that they are rooted in the change of the nodal axis back in January 2022.

It’s a prime time to look at what we are ready to release.

In Spiritual communities we often hear a line like, “letting go of that which no longer serves”.

We frequently say that around the New Moon, and move to release rather benign things. This is a great practice for maintenance. To regularly keep an eye on releasing.

But do we take the time to really meditate on the metaphysical nature of this axiom?

Our field only has the capacity to hold what is in our range to hold. So if we have big dreams. If we are calling in a huge vision, often times this necessitates a gigantic letting go. A super sized shedding.

The necessitates the release of every single thing that isn’t true and aligned.

I’m talking relationships, living situations, jobs, ways of being etc.

While I’d never promote the idea that the eclipse is an ideal time to take a scythe to our lives.

I do advance the idea that this is an ideal time to begin to meditate and orient ourselves towards eventually letting them go. Slowly. Methodically.

Making today a time ripe for for self care rituals. Salt baths, eating nourishing building foods. Journaling and napping. Etc.

She is a passionate devotee of the ever unfolding mystery. As an expert observer, a trait she developed as an only child, she regards herself as both a student of life, and decoder of the cosmos.

Skilled at recognizing invisible patterns, and picking up on subtle shifts in the collective, she gets a thrill from uncovering and revealing the hidden threads that are woven together to create our paradigm.

Her passion for this existential detective work aligns well with her unique approach to one on one client work, as she helps others to discover the building blocks of their archetypal blueprint, and mythic overtones. She does not believe that astrology is static, and therefore works with clients to develop strategies and practices that allow them to transcend challenging aspects of their natal chart.

She lives on the Shores of Lake Erie with her husband, four kids, and Cat, Oscar (the grouch).

These days, when she isn’t interpreting a natal chart, or translating the stars for her astrology blog, you can find her engaging in one of her favorite pandemic pastimes, unraveling her inner “good girl”, cultivating the ability to thrive in the deep, dark, unknown, or playing her favorite game of identifying fun paradoxes called “two things are true at once”.
