Universal Law and the Zodiac

Let’s talk about the Zodiac, and the Laws of the Universe…

So often I have clients ask me, why is my chart so hard?

Or they will tell me that they have a a bad configuration in their natal chart. And wonder if that means they are doomed.

Perhaps Saturn is going to be traveling over a significant part of their chart, and they are worried about the implications…

I want to alleviate all of these worries, here now.

It’s important to understand that nature always seeks balance. Or said differently, the nature of the universe is balance.

Balance is the underlying mechanism in Karma. The act of this “finding balance” or “Karma” is the Function of Justice. Yes, just like the Tarot Card.

Justice in the Tarot is not about the law. It’s about balancing the scales. Equilibrium.

The balance we speak of is not a static balance as the scales suggest.

It’s a dynamic balance. One in which we swing from one pole to the next and eventually find equanimity.

Sometimes it’s nuanced, and other times the swings are pronounced. Even inside Enantiodromia, we shouldn’t loose hope, because by its very nature it reminds us that the balancing function is always in play.

If we see a challenging aspect in our chart, it was placed there precisely to help you advance on your evolutionary journey by aiding in this “balancing act”. Perhaps in your former life you were an adventurous hedonist. In this life, you may have a lot of Virgo, and Saturnine influences, like me.

My soul has called in devotion to something specific. Not expansive pleasure filled pursuits. (Although I can always to choose to experience these as well) But rather it’s asking for mastery and refinement through service.

Each soul has an intelligence. It knows exactly what it is doing, what it called in, and how it will use these transits to your benefit.

Similarly, no singular transit is “good or bad”. Every chart, in every moment, has an evolutionary challenge, and the precise medicine pathway embedded in that same chart.

Why? because each chart is whole. In every moment a chart is being generated. In each moment that chart is a snapshot or a blueprint of evolutionary intention.

The reason things feels “so hard” is not from the astrology, or even what it is generating, but rather it’s our tension or struggle against what the chart is asking for that causes the suffering.

But there is another way.

We begin our lives in a Great Forgetting. Our chart, contains the bread crumbs to our remembering.

This year, I began to speak to my own class about what great analogies video games make when mapped onto the matrix.

Our charts are like the background code to this grand scale video game. They reveal the level we are on, the tools we will need for the adventure. The treasure chests of wisdom. The side quests that unlock secret passageways. The places where our character MUST stop and recharge its life force. Etc.

It is a map to a non linear quest. An exercise in world building.

Each archetype has a contract with us. As an evolutionary dance partner.

They simply desire a relationship with us. For us understand their message, and how they can ally with us in our journey.

No transit should scare us. Even if they precipitate themes that are outside of our preference. Because the intention is ultimately, paradoxically, to introduce us to a dimension of reality we are being called to remember or experience. And ultimately to learn from.

This is the mystery of incarnation. To dance with the archetypes. In their prescribed fashion. They aren’t literal. The exact why we may express an archetypal prescription varies through free will. But we will experience an impulse or drive to dance with them that won’t release us until soul is satisfied we’ve experienced that dimension fully enough to have achieved balance. (This is why humans have patterns, we are released from them when the Archetype is finished initiating us, usually through making something conscious and approving of it) Or, in other words, the Karma is fulfilled.

*please note this is a high level teaching. Things like abuse, violence, and degradation of the soul is not being covered in this particular post. That’s more complex than this post.

Damascena Tanis

Damascena is an Archetypal Astrologer, Ayurvedic Wellness Practitioner, and The Facilitator of the Transformative Journey through the Mandala of Venus’ Wisdom, called “Sky Dancer”.

She is a passionate devotee of the ever unfolding mystery. As an expert observer, a trait she developed as an only child, she regards herself as both a student of life, and decoder of the cosmos.

Skilled at recognizing invisible patterns, and picking up on subtle shifts in the collective, she gets a thrill from uncovering and revealing the hidden threads that are woven together to create our paradigm.

Her passion for this existential detective work aligns well with her unique approach to one on one client work, as she helps others to discover the building blocks of their archetypal blueprint, and mythic overtones. She does not believe that astrology is static, and therefore works with clients to develop strategies and practices that allow them to transcend challenging aspects of their natal chart.

She lives on the Shores of Lake Erie with her husband, four kids, and Cat, Oscar (the grouch).

These days, when she isn’t interpreting a natal chart, or translating the stars for her astrology blog, you can find her engaging in one of her favorite pandemic pastimes, unraveling her inner “good girl”, cultivating the ability to thrive in the deep, dark, unknown, or playing her favorite game of identifying fun paradoxes called “two things are true at once”.
